The Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent is 44 OZ / 1247 grams, as well as 229 dollars, and the Kammok Hammock Tent Mantis UL is 35 oz/ 992 grams, as well as $259, are hammock shelters that come in one.

In other words, they have (almost) everything you require to make a good hammock shelter – hammock bags, stuff sacks, a bug net that can be removed, tarps, stakes, cords, knotless attachment clips, suspended line-locs that are integrated, as well as suspension. The hammock shelters do not come with blankets (top-quilt as well as under-quilt) or storage accessories that can be added.

The difference in weight between the two Kammok Mantis hammock tent models is mostly due to the choice of materials for the hammock body and the suspension straps. In other respects, the models are (mostly) similar. This Kammok Mantis hammock tent review will draw attention to any differences; however, in the absence of a specific case, you’re free to assume that the characteristics I’ve discussed are applicable to both models.

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent Review: Field Testing and Performance

Description of Field Testing

I played around with the Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent in conjunction with the Kammok Hammock Tent Mantis UL at two different climates.

In some of my trips, I used the shelters as a “base camp,” and on others, I set up and dismantled the shelter in the mornings and evenings. I was able to experience rain in the form of massive snowfall, severe rain, and moderate rain.

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent

In assessing the effectiveness of the Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent and the Kammok Hammock Tent Mantis UL Systems, I reviewed:

  1. sleep quality
  2. features and the ease of use
  3. pockets and storage for gear
  4. the weight and packing capacity

Kammok Mantis Hammock Sleep Quality Review

I’ll admit it – I’m sick of sleeping on my back. In the past, I’ve gone from cheap, lightweight, and durable closed-cell foam pads to more expensive, lightweight, but not as light, and certainly indestructible inflatable alternatives. But I’m still struggling. The quality of my sleep was the major reason why I decided to try my Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent or Kammok Hammock Tent Mantis UL a while ago.

READ Useful  La Siesta Hammock Reviews: 2026 Complete Buyer’s Guide

It was cut to create a slightly curly shape when I was inside it, and correctly (slightly diagonally) situated. I took out my book, switched my headlamp from red to green, and then fell to sleep. When I woke up the next day, I was awake at 2:00 am, and I’d slept with a book in my hand for over five hours.

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent

It’s hard to overstate this. My routine is to oftentimes toss and turn for at least 45 minutes prior to falling asleep, sleeping on the ground even on long-distance days. My experience is that I always suffer from lower back pain as well as heel pain when I sleep on my back. My experience is that I always suffer from discomfort in my shoulders, hips, and ankles when I sleep on my side.

It is a fact that I always wake up sore and stiff. I’ve come to evaluate my quality of sleep in terms of my small achievements. Do I get to sleep for longer than an hour, without having to get up to switch positions? Success. Do I have enough energy for the day to prepare coffee? Success.

However, for the moment, I can report that the Kammok Mantis hammock gave me my most restful night in the backcountry to date in my time as a backpacker.

Kammok Mantis All-in-One Hammock Features and Ease of Use

Due to my inexperience with hammocks as well as initial mishaps with setup and taking down, I learned to be impressed by the Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent, its innovative design elements, e.g., how its fly is integrated into the design, and the way it is pitched.

The fly is attached to trees using an aluminum hook that is knotless. Line locks are integrated into the fly, then pick off the excess line to create an even pitch. The tarp comes with 6 guy-out spots (one at every corner and two at the center), and each has a fixed line with integrated line-locs.

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent

The tarp itself is made of silnylon, which stretches slightly under snow load and in particularly humid evenings. In my tests, when snow was expected in the forecast, I made it a point to pitch the tarp at an upward angle to make up for it. A catenary ridgeline was helpful in a taut pitching.

The huge amount of line required to man a tarp that is high above the ground was one of the factors that initially caused me to slow down during packing, setting up, and packing the Mantis. Since I am used to tarp-based systems, I quickly tangled up a lot of these lines while stowing and unloading my shelter.

Best hammock parts

Kammok Mantis UL Hammock Stuff Sack and Storage Design

The stuff bag is a DWR-treated silnylon roll-top bag with plenty of room for every component (I dislike a small stuff bag). The stuff sack comes with slots for stake storage externally, an innovative idea I’ve not seen elsewhere.

This not only helps to keep track of the stakes you have (you can easily see at a glance that you’ve got stakes in all), but it also lets you use one less bag to throw away.

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent

The Kammok Mantis all-in-one hammock tent body is separated from the tough bag, which is still affixed to the Ridgeline that is integrated into the structure. The stuff sack hangs between the carabiner for attachment and the hammock’s body. I like this feature. It’s a great way to reduce the number of things that are lost in the darkness or in the wind. People who love swapping out stuff sacks according to their preferred brand and design will be annoyed by this option, but.

The sacks are constructed using 15D diamond ripstop nylon that has the treatment of 1,500mm PU/Silicone/DWR. It seemed to soak up lots of moisture in my tests. Based on the material’s performance, it won’t keep contents completely dry. The lack of waterproofing was my only issue with the bag.

The lines are made up of a small amount of elastic towards the point closest to the Kammok Mantis Ultralight Hammock. This is a great design that allows the hammock to move as you move about without putting pressure on the stakes. However, they maintain their volume once you’re still. The Kammok Mantis hammock tent includes 4 of them (two in each of the foot and the head) as opposed to the Mantis UL, which includes 3 (two in the front and another at the feet). The bug nets on every model also come with two attachment points to increase the volume.

The bug net can be dragged out smoothly to decrease weight when it is not in the right season. Nevertheless, it needs some effort to put it back in. It’s possible to zip it back in with your Kammok Mantis UL Hammock. The Winter Barrier is sold separately to provide warmth to the system, but it’s as if you’re sleeping on a coffin floating in the air. It also has the potential for condensation, which is what you would expect.

Kammok Mantis UL Setup and Breakdown Review

It is very quick and simple to set up. It comes with several options that take the fiddling and guesswork out of setting up. To make the tarp usable, wrap the ridgelines between two branches, secure knotless hooks, and then tension the LineLocs. Take in the 4 corners and tighten the LineLocs.

To make the Kammok Mantis hammock tent, make sure you wrap your Python’s UL straps over similar trees to the tarp, then attach the carabiners to those daisy chain loops. After that, slide the side wing guy-out loops onto the stakes you used to make the top end of the tarp. That’s it.

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent

To achieve such a simple setup, it is necessary to secure your tarp lines properly before packing them away. They are prone to becoming tangled when stored, because they’re made of a textured material (due to the reflector) and are pre-tied to a stake loop and utilize LineLoc hardware.

I discovered that even if I used a coil that was wrapped in the middle, the coil had fallen off and created knots after I took it off, which would have quadrupled my time to set up. The best method to avoid this from happening is to coil the lines in a figure eight and loop the ends around your pinky and thumb, wrap the final foot around the middle, and secure it with an edgy half-hitch.

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent

Gear Storage and Pockets

Kammok Mantis and the Kammok Mantis as well as the Mantis UL only come with two pockets, and both of them are built into the bug-netting, which is removable. Although they’re large – and I appreciate that since the pockets of shelters have been shrinking recently, they’re not worth the cost when you don’t use the bug net.

Kammok offers a selection of storage items, such as those from the Mantis Gear Loft, that are inexpensive and light. However, I’d like the shelter to come with more storage options.

Hammock Weight and Packability

There’s a noticeable weight distinction between the Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent and the Kammok Hammock Tent Mantis UL. As far as the information I have, the difference originates from the straps (see above) as well as the material used for hammocks in both models.

Via my trials as well as discussions, I have discovered that both materials are sturdy enough to serve their purpose, and also breathable. However, each version of the Kammok Mantis UL Hammock comes with the capacity to hold a different weight (see Conclusion below).

READ Useful  Vista Hammock Reviews: 5 Reasons For Change Your Relaxation

While the integrability in the Kammok Mantis hammock tent means that some parts are unchangeable, there’s still the possibility of weight savings in the corners and elsewhere. The fact that it has six guy-out points rather than four. It can easily be swapped to the DCF tarp of the user’s preference.

In the same way, hammock enthusiasts may have tree straps from the aftermarket, but prefer Kammok’s Python straps.

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent Review: Issues of Note

There are a few problems typical of hammocks, such as Mantis and Mantis UL:

  1. Beginners are likely to find the setup and take-down more time-and energy-intensive than some of the better-designed pole-supported shelters.
  2. Line management can be an issue if you’re not conscious of it at each step.

The problem can be resolved by practice and acquaintance.

In addition, I have discovered certain issues specific to the Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent System:

  1. The design isn’t an asymmetrical cut, which means you won’t be able to lie completely flat. It didn’t bother me much, however, if you’re experiencing back pain, it might be a problem.
  2. The shelter’s two pockets are located on the bug net that is removable, and you must pay an extra fee for storage.
Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent

Kammok Mantis Ultralight All-in-One Hammock Tent Strengths

  1. An ideal starting point for backpackers who want to explore hammocks.
  2. It was a great way to get a cozy night’s rest
  3. knot-free, easy to set up
  4. smart, well-thought-out characteristics
  5. The price is reasonable for an adequate shelter
  6. Well-designed and well-constructed stuff bag
Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent

Kammok Mantis Hammock Tent Limitations

  1. not cut symmetrically for comfortable flat sleep (but can be amplified by using guys-outs
  2. Some parts (like, for example, the stuff sack) cannot be swapped out.
  3. The stuff sack’s waterproofing isn’t working.
  4. Requires additional accessories to organize the storage of gear.

What Other Hammocks Should You Consider?

Here are a few alternatives similar to that of the Mantis UL. For more options, take a look at our comprehensive guide to the best Hammocks to see more of our favorites.

Review Hennessy Hammock: If the idea of a complete hammock kit appeals to you but the cost of the Mantis UL is still a little high, and you’re looking for a cheaper option, Hennessey offers the most affordable basic hammock kit. It’s not as cozy or provides the same protection from the weather, but it’s built with high-quality components that will last for a long time, and it comes at a reasonable cost.

Hennessey offers standard hammocks with heights that go up to 6 feet. We find that to be a little too big, so if you’re at the edge, we suggest increasing to an XL size.

Warbonnet Blackbird Hammock Review: For our best-rated hammock, this does a lot to stand out, while also being the most lightweight hammock of our selection. If the idea of assembling all the parts isn’t too daunting, then the Blackbird is the perfect standalone hammock for you to begin with, even though it can cost a bit more.

Sleeping comfort is higher in hammocks

That doesn't even factor in the dampness or hard, uneven terrain you deal with sleeping in a tent. A hammock allows for more sleeping positions than on the ground (including sleeping on your side or stretching out on your back).

Yes, you can absolutely sleep overnight in a hammock, and many people do so for both camping and full-time living. To sleep comfortably without waking up with aches, however, you must lie diagonally rather than straight down the center, which allows your spine to rest in a relatively flat position.
