 I’m 6’2″ tall. As of my review, I weighed at 195lbs. I consider that the Nano 7 Ultra Light Premium Hammock is the most comfortable way to sleep. I prefer a Nano 7 Hammock over my bed. I’d love to have a bed at the house in the event that my wife would let me hang a grand trunk hammock in our room. I often put up a hammock in the garage on Sunday afternoons for napping.

In 2009, I tried the brand new Nano 7 Ultra Light Premium Hammock, which is arguably the most lightweight hammock that is available. This review is special, and transforming for me was that, in the course of testing, it was the first time that the Whoopie Sling was introduced to camping in hammocks. The time was when I was testing different suspension options, such as a 2-inch webbing strap.
I was still familiar with the way the Hennessy Hammock was constructed using a rope that came from the hammock, and connecting with webbing straps. I gave up on the figure-8 wrap because it was difficult to adjust the hammock; however, I did use an extended rope.Â
In the beginning, I was convinced that my carabiner method using the slippery rope called a Lark’s Head knot would be the most efficient and easiest method to set up a hammock.
Hammock with Mosquito Net and Stand
A Nano 7 Ultra Light Premium Hammock that has a mosquito stand and net is perfect for campers looking to protect themselves from bugs without having to rely on trees to set up. Although Nano 7 is extremely lightweight, it doesn’t come with the bug net that is built in or a stand.Â
In areas with a lot of bugs, it is recommended to use a hammock, such as the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beater, which may be the better choice since it has mosquito protection and gives you more space to sleep. A stand is also beneficial for backyard use, as well as car camping places where suitable trees aren’t readily accessible.

Actually, if I weren’t sleeping in hammocks, I’d always carry this Grand Trunk Nano 7 Hammock along. With just 7 ounces, it’s difficult to deny the extra comfort at camp versus carrying a lot of weight.
The quality of construction is excellent. The quality stitching is evident throughout the Nano 7 Hammock. Triple stitches strengthen the edges of the hammock. This creates an extra amount of strength due to the heavy stress on the carabiners, and the body of the Nano 7 Ultra Light Premium Hammock is rip-stop nylon, which means that when damage occurs, it is unlikely to spread throughout the repair.Â
Carabiners themselves are of high quality, constructed from aluminum alloy that is light in weight, and clip effortlessly into place, showing no evidence of wear and tear through the testing.
The thing I did not Liked about Nano7 Hammock
When using any ultralight, it is important to be careful to stay clear of branches and avoid bottoming out on rocks. A bit of TLC is recommended.

I was a bit cautious at first, but after I received the first pair, I instantly realized how amazing Whoopie Slings proved to be. They were extremely light compared to the other products I used to use. My carabiner, rope and webbing doubled that of the Nano 7 Ultra Light Premium Hammock. It’s Whoopie Sling is also loaded, so it was smaller, allowing it to be tucked into the nano’s tiny storage bag.
I also changed to a smaller, 1-inch (2.5 millimeters) strap, which was around 4 feet (50 inches (127 centimeters)) long, as well as a pair of toggles made of the halved stake of aluminum. It weighed just 8 ounces (227 grams). Since then, hammock weights have been dropping, and the heaviest one (without bug nets) is just under 6 8 oz (170 grams) and still has Nano as the base.

Hammock Hanging 101
Since I often come across people who don’t know the ideal method to lie in a hammock, I thought I’d begin with a short instruction. The majority of new hammockers get into hammocks and then hang them folded, like the shape of a banana. They place their heads at one end, and their feet on the other, and lie in an upright line. This is how I began to sleep in a hammock, as well as how I complained of my back pain.
The ideal way to rest inside a hammock is by sleeping at a diagonal angle towards the hammock. The flattening of the hammock makes for an ideal night’s sleep. I’m not certain where other reviews come to that 1.7 number. I’m thinking it’s more like the 1.1oz.)
It is quite surprising that a Grand Trunk Nano 7 Hammock with a lightweight design can be rated up to 300 pounds. Most lightweight hammocks have ratings of just 200lbs. It’s hard to imagine a person who is larger using this hammock. This is my main complaint about this hammock.
The 6-foot-2″ frame was just too big for this hammock. In the image below, you will see me struggling to find a comfortable, diagonal lay. My knee and elbow struggle to prevent my sides from encircling me. I’m carrying a banana back, and I’m feeling insecure.
For comparison
Look at this picture that was taken inside the interior of my Grand Trunk Skeeter Beater (measures 10’6″ x 5”, weighs 30oz, can hold 400lbs, and includes a bug-netting). My bed is a level, diagonally laid. My shoulders are spacious. I’m not fighting against the entanglement in the hammock.
Overall
There’s nothing not to appreciate about this Nano 7 Ultra Light Premium Hammock. It’s extremely comfortable, beating out heavier and more expensive alternatives due to its tension-free edges and smooth materials, and then it disappears into a backpack when it’s time to lounge.Â
It’s as easy to set up as it gets, with the simple carabiner clip at both ends, and it’s lightweight enough to carry to almost any destination. If I ever bring a hammock with me is likely to be this one.
If you’re tall and broad, I would not suggest the Grand Trunk Nano 7 Hammock. It’s simply not going to offer the necessary comfort to get a good night’s rest. But, if you’re an individual who is looking to reduce weight significantly in the mountains, Grand Trunk Nano may have what you’re seeking here.
