The fundamentals for Klymit Insulated Hammock V are the same. It is the same as every mat I’ve used: Inflating a valve and deflating, a valve for deflating, and that’s it. There’s nothing special about the overall performance of the pad, but I’d have to say that is true of all mats I’ve owned and used. Through my experience, I’ve noticed that it holds air very well, and there aren’t any issues in that regard. One thing that I’ve noticed that is a huge positive is that the pads aren’t loud when you move around in them, unlike other pads I’ve tried. This is great if you’re a person who sleeps lightly or if someone sleeping with you is.
In terms of the inflation of the pad, it was inflated within 20-25 breaths using my mouth, so it wasn’t overly difficult to complete. Inflate valves are also a one-way valve; therefore, if you are exhausted and wish to rest from inflating to take a breather, the valve will shut off the entire effort from leaving the pad. Personally, I prefer using the pump sac for inflating pads to prevent moisture from entering the pad. I want to test klymit hammocks fast air pump. They are always my preferred method of inflating a pad; however, they weren’t available to me, so the lungs had to make do.
To test the waters, I decided to try using an Exped Schnozzle to fill the pad with air, since it was what I had lying around from my regular sleeping pad. The method did the trick… but only. The valve in this pump is smaller than the pad valve. So I had to keep the valve on the pump sac in the valve of the pad continuously to allow it to function. It was not a beautiful thing to observe and proved to be rather awkward, so it isn’t the best option when you’re switching to the Exped system.
To sleep, the ‘V’-shaped air chambers are a little different from what I have used out of Thermarest as well as Exped mats. The ‘V’s are bigger than the other mats I’ve tried. At first, I was thinking it might be uncomfortable using it on the ground, but when lying flat on the mat as you sleep, it’s quite comfortable. It was the only place I felt the ground beneath me was stable while sitting or leaning on my elbow. That’s nothing different from my current selection of mats.

It has become a household name for its inflatable sleeping bags and air pads, so we were amazed to discover that the company has branched into the hammock market by introducing its new Traverse Double Hammock. This means that aside from the tarp that is available, it is now possible to purchase the complete hammock setup with Klymit.
We packed these things into our backpacks before heading out towards the mountain ranges of Southern California. Even though it’s only February, conditions in this region seem similar to the springtime temperatures in other states. Clear skies and temperatures that range from high 30s at night to low 60s in the daytime. When you consider the comfort rating of 35@F that the bag has, the weather seemed perfect for testing our setup.
Klymit Traverse Double Hammock
The first component of our collection was the brand new klymit insulated hammock v sleeping pad. The product comes in a vibrant green bag, along with carabiners and tree straps. The size of the bag is 5”x 8 inches.
Unlocking the drawstring from the stuff bag, I pulled out its contents before beginning the installation of our tree ropes. Each strap is unrolled up to about 11 feet in length, and the actual Hammock is barely 9 feet in length. We located two strong trees that were 20 feet from each other. If you are sleeping under trees, you should take care to check for “widowmaker” branches or other dead wood pieces that could fall on you during the night.
klymit hammock is a “double” hammock, meaning that it’s sufficient for two people to sit in it. This extra space also permits a single user to lie across the diagonal, which results in an elongated and more comfortable body position. Double hammocks are our preferred choice for this reason.
The Traverse also has an unidirectional seamless hem, which is designed to support the weight naturally when we sleep in our preferred position. The 70-denier ripstop nylon fabric was quite sturdy and could withstand upwards of 400 pounds.

The klymit hammock sleeping pad comes with Four Side Rail Wings, which are designed to curve to the shape of a hammock when the user lies down. This helps to protect the areas of the body from cross-breezes, thereby reducing the loss of heat during the night. The wings also extend to the side of the Hammock, making it feel larger.
After putting the pad and Hammock set in place, we moved to the last part that made up our 3-part set.
Klymit Hammock Sleeping Pad
Temperature ratings for sleeping bags are often a bit confusing since certain manufacturers offer ratings that are the most dangerous temperatures for their bag. This means that you’ll make it through the night; however, you’ll not be at ease. Luckily, the temperature of Klymit’s names for sleeping bags corresponds to the bags’ EN Comfort Rating. This is a third-party standard that specifies the temperatures at which a person can sleep comfortably, not temperatures at which one can live (known as “the EN Lower Limit).
The bag was unpacked from its 13.7” bag, and the zipper was loosened for full-length before placing it on top of the klymit hammock v sleeping pad.
As we climbed into our hammocks, we rolled on the sleeping bag, which was unzipped and then zipped up to chest height. It would be very comfortable in the summer months.
The sleeping bag is made out of 20-denier ripstop nylon and has a DWR coating that repels dew and other light moisture sources. If there’s a chance of rain, make sure to create a Ridgeline as well as a Tarp to shield your Hammock from being soaked. We always have a Snugpak Stasha tarp as well as lightweight stakes and a 30-foot spool of paracord in 550 lengths to serve this purpose. These accessories are less than one 1 pound in our bag.

Final Klymit Hammock Review Verdict
In our time at the beach, evening temperatures dropped to the mid-30s with very little breeze. Our sleeping arrangements included the same clothes shown in these pictures, as well as a beanie, wool socks, and some socks.
