Intro to This Hammock Camping Tent Review
A few months ago, I was kindly sent the Haven tent to test. I was interested because I’ve never really been the biggest fan of camping hammock tents due to the fact that I’m a side-sleeper, and hammocks aren’t ideal for people who sleep on their sides.
However, Haven tents and hammocks for Camping are a different matter. They’re more like suspended tents than hammocks. Therefore, I decided to test it out for myself and test the concept. After a few hours of playing and exploring it, I’ve concluded that it’s an interesting concept; however, in a real-world scenario, it’s not practical.
Let me explain.
In my quest to find the most comfortable camping arrangements, I’ve crossed several bridges. I’m a larger guy, and there are some things (cots) that are excluded. A huge camping hammock tent with a sleeping pad that is placed on the ground is fine; however, it’s not something I would look for after a long day of climbing or glassing in awkward places.
For a long time, the best option I found was the Bass Pro/Cabelas OutfitterXL Cot. Although it’s large and quite comfortable, I was getting tired of carrying it around and putting it up. If you’ve ever had to use one, chances are you’ve uttered a few swear words trying to put the bars at the ends.
Quick Verdict: Is This the Best Hammock Tent for Camping?
The Haven Tent is a totally new interpretation of hammock design. The person who founded the company, Derek Tillotson, was determined to “make sleep the highlight of camping,” therefore, the focus was on comfort and portability over convenience. The design isn’t exactly like the camping hammock tents we’re accustomed to. While it is hung between two stakes or trees, it’s a completely different design. It hangs exactly, but it’s rectangular and has spreader bars on either side. When it’s set up, its corners and the cambered center appear to be exactly the opposite of traditional hammocks and serve a function.
This 2 person camping hammock tent lets you lie on the ground. Completely. Flat.
At the beginning, I was thrilled but wasn’t convinced. Would my frame of 6’3, 220 pounds be flat enough inside what is basically a hanging tent? Yes, it can.
I picked The Haven XL (big boy edition) after watching a video of a man who was put up 6’9 or about 275lbs, and climbed into it with plenty of room on both ends. This is the basic Haven Hammock Tent that’s made of the familiar Polyester tent fabric.
Camping Hammock Tent Weight
The first thing to note is that one of the biggest issues with this best camping hammock haven tent is its weight. The tent weighs more than eight tons for a shelter that can only accommodate one person.
Now that includes the air mattress, which the majority of shelters won’t. However, even then, I’ve got a two-person camping hammock tent that does not weigh nearly that much. Even without the air mattress, the mattress weighs just 5 pounds. It is impossible to change the air mattress to something else since the design is based on the particular air mattress.
Camping Hammock Tent Size
If you can overcome the weight, the double camping hammock haven tent feels tiny from the outside. I even received the larger size initially, but I was not sure I needed it. I cannot imagine a smaller size than this. Imagine a tent just as big as your sleeping pad, and it’s essentially the definition of a hammock tent for Camping.
The larger size is 30 inches in width, which would appear to have enough space, and there are some cool things that you could consider, such as hanging your backpack or other equipment off the ridge line to keep it from getting in the way. I can manage it if it’s a minimal shelter. You indeed have to sacrifice some benefits in weight and so on. But if I’m lugging this much weight, the shelter should offer more than being suspended on the ceiling.
Camping Hammock Tent Support
One thing that I feel contributes to the slight feeling can be the way that a mattress sags as you lie down on it. It’s not rigid enough to support your weight without being able to fold in on itself somewhat.
It’s not the same as a real hammock, and it’s feasible to sleep on your back and even on your stomach if you like; however, it will make it feel more uncomfortable inside. It will be more noticeable when you are using an extra-large size as compared to the normal size, since your weight won’t be dispersed as widely. For those who are taller, it will be easier to fold when they use the extra-large size, while smaller hikers will feel less cramped in the standard size. However, the more camping tent hammocks you put in, the less you’ll be able to feel.

Camping Hammock Tent Setup: What You Need to Know Before Using It
Haven tents can be difficult to put up. It is important to set the head higher than your feet, or when you are lying in it, your head will go downhill.
It is important to ensure that your hips are in the right place; you’ll find that your head is too low. When you’re moving out and in or simply trying to move within the winter camping hammock tent, the mattress showed a tendency to shift to either side and was a challenge to move back without stepping from the hammock.
Again, these are all issues I’d be willing to give up if there was an extremely significant gain to be had. As best I can tell, the main benefit is the fact that you’re suspended above the ground. That, if I’m honest, feels somewhat unreal.

How did it work?
For my first attempt at the real-world application of this system, I brought this system with me to Chris’ famed gear test area in Angel Fire, NM. We were filming an archery-based camp-based hunt for elk, so I thought there’d be plenty of chances for rest and sleep-ins.
The One Exception
There’s just one particular scenario in which I could think about this for a while: If I didn’t plan to go to a great distance and I was aware that I would not find an even surface at my campsite … this isn’t a realistic scenario. You will likely find an unsteady campsite off the trail.
If you’re going off-trail, you’re probably going to need to travel fast and light. If you’re planning to stay on the trail for just a few minutes and an overnight stay only a few miles from the trailhead, then that’s the location where you’re more likely to come across well-established and level campsites.
The Setup: First Impressions of This Camping Tent Hammock
Let me be honest. My personal ego was involved in the fact that this was a simple task. I thought I was capable of working out how to build the camping hammock tent with a full stomach and a relaxed mind. This was not the scenario. There are creative tricks to the hammock setup, and I did a quick YouTube search to understand. There were many pieces, straps, and other items that I was unable to wrap my mind around.
Climbing In: Comfort Review of This Best Camping Hammock Tent
But once I understood the basic principles, setting up was, as promised, easy. The great thing is that this kit has equipment that can be fully customized in the design, layout, and stiffness of the hammock camping tent. The entire process is well-thought-out and almost foolproof.
I usually employ the Klymit Klymaloft Pad XL wherever I travel. It’s extremely comfortable and not too heavy. It was so comfortable that you’d think it was made of wood. I entered the Blue Ridge camping hammock tent and almost instantly fell asleep. You can trust me when I say that it’s an extremely beautiful location to be in. There’s more space in it than I have in my single-man bathtub-style tent for backpacking. The zippers and pockets for gear are in the right spots.
I lay flat, and I was unable to give any way on the horizontal plane. I managed to capture this sloppy wide-angle shot on the following day using my smartphone to show how comfortable I could spread out and lie down before I began to drift off.
With a little practice, it’s more compact, smaller, lighter, and a lot better than any other cot I’ve ever lain my head on. Also, it’s… an actual tent, which means you don’t need to bring one! It’s a fantastic reason to get away from the snoring friends. The world is waiting for the concept of a double for couple and… very intimate… hunters…
Camping Hammock Tent With Sleeping Pad: Why the Pad Matters
It is very different from a regular gathered-end hammock. The Best camping hammock Haven tent design depends heavily on the pad because the sleeping surface is part of what helps create the flat position.
This is also why swapping the pad is not always simple. A normal hammock allows you to use many different sleeping pads or underquilts. The Haven works best when the pad fits the structure properly.
For side sleepers, stomach sleepers, and larger campers, this is one of the biggest advantages. The sleeping pad helps the hammock feel more like a floating tent than a curved hammock.
However, it also adds weight and bulk. That is the tradeoff.
Accessories for Tent Hammocks for Camping
This is the point at which Haven is truly dialed. Several items make your camping hammock tent more comfortable. These individuals have thought of all of the items. It is possible to outfit your hammock with all-length lighting and trailer hitch stands, spreader bars made of carbon fiber, and much more. I purchased one of the “Works Kit” which included the light for rope as well as a tensioning string, several straps, and an inflatable sleeping pad pump. I would highly recommend that.
Haven also produces sleep pads that can be perfectly incorporated into their hammocks, so I picked one to make sure I was thorough. Although it’s an unassuming pad, it’s very durable and comfortable, and I’ve utilized it for several excursions for myself as well as an alternative to a loaner.
The Klymit Klymaloft XL Pad is my home, and since it’s the largest single-person pad there, any other pad you own is compatible with the XL. The dimensions listed on the site are precise if you wish to test your pad against the normal-sized tent, or the canvas “Safari” version.
Hammock Camping vs Tent Camping: Which One Is Better?
The debate depends on where and how you camp.
A normal hammock tent camping gives you more interior room, easier setup, and more flexibility when trees are not available. It also lets you spread out your gear, change clothes more easily, and use the shelter on open ground.
A hammock keeps you above rocks, roots, mud, water, and uneven ground. That is a major advantage when the campsite is rough. It can also feel more peaceful because you are suspended instead of lying directly on the ground.
The Haven tent hammocks for Camping sit somewhere between both options. It is not a traditional hammock, and it is not a normal tent. It gives you a flat sleeping position like a tent, but it hangs like a hammock.
That makes it useful, but also more specialized.

Camping Hammock Tent for Sale: What to Check Before Buying
When looking for a camping hammock tent for sale, do not just look at the product photos. Check the full system.
Look at the total packed weight, rainfly coverage, sleeping pad compatibility, suspension hardware, waterproof rating, and setup requirements.
Also, check whether the product is truly a 2-person camping hammock tent or just a hammock with a bug net and tarp. Those are not the same thing.
A camping hammock tent should give you shelter, sleep support, bug protection, rain protection, and a stable hanging system.
Final Thoughts
The best camping hammock has been thoroughly tested for stress, and I am sure that my tent will last for quite a long time. The Safari edition is calling me, particularly because I watched the footage of Derek loading more than 2000 pounds into it.
The company itself. They’re indeed slightly hipper than other companies. Haven, run by Tillotson, really strives to make sleep the most memorable part of any camping trip, which is particularly important when you’re searching all day. According to me, the best hammock haven tent for Camping has succeeded, and their expanding range of products has forever changed my sleeping habits for the better.
I’m very happy to have found this method. I highly recommend trying it out in the event of any hunting in the style of a base camp. You’ll be thrilled to return to your camp, sip an alcoholic beverage, and get into this beast.

FAQ About
Many backpackers and bikebackers enjoy camping with hammocks because they are so lightweight and take up little space in a pack. Hammock campers also enjoy a higher vantage point and are spared the discomfort of sleeping on sloped or rocky ground. A couple of sturdy trees are all you need.
RUGGED & RELIABLE BUILD: This hammock tent is constructed for heavy-duty use – from its 300D canvas body to steel spreader bars and reinforced stitching on all load points. It safely holds up to 350 lbs and can endure long-term setup (e.g., a whole summer season) without material degradation.
The answer, though, isn't a simple yes or no. While some people find hammock sleeping comfortable and suitable for nightly use, others might experience challenges in the long run. It's crucial to consider the type of hammock you choose, its suspension system, and your personal comfort preferences.
The choice between hammock and tent camping depends on your environment and comfort preferences. Hammocks are lighter and ideal for heavily wooded, rocky, or uneven terrain. Tents are superior in open or alpine areas, offer better privacy and weather protection, and are better for group camping
Hammock camping is highly safe as long as you follow basic setup rules and use quality gear. The primary risks—falling or weather exposure—are easily mitigated by hanging your hammock low to the ground, selecting sturdy trees, and using the proper bug nets and rainflies.
